Agdam — a worthy heir of Absinthe and a continuer of a great sporting lineage

Agdam (born in 1970) was one of the most prominent sons of the legendary Absinthe, whose bloodline played a major role in the development of sport horse breeding across the former USSR.
He was born at the Lugovoy (Kulan) Stud Farm in Kazakhstan and inherited from his great sire a refined type, soft and elastic movement, and exceptional workability.
An Anglo–Akhal-Teke stallion, Agdam was dark bay, with measurements 165–165–188–20, a bonitation score of 8.2, and an elite-2 class ranking. He was included in the GPK RVP registry (Volume I, Section 3 “Foundation Stallions”). Agdam passed away in 1994.

Agdam distinguished himself particularly in dressage.
Under the saddle of the experienced rider A. I. Tankov, he became multiple winner and prize holder of the USSR Championships, demonstrating consistency, expressive gaits, and the ability to perform collected and technically demanding work.
His sporting level was so high that he was selected for the USSR national team preparing for the 1980 Olympic Games. Although he ultimately did not compete, the fact of his selection alone highlighted his outstanding quality.

After retiring from sport, Agdam became actively involved in breeding and left behind a significant number of high-quality descendants, successful in both sport and breeding.
His most famous son is the black stallion Aprikos, later exported to the United States, where he earned the title of National Champion in Dressage. Notably, Aprikos’s dam, the mare Beglyanka, is a full sister to the famous Barin, which added even more value to the line.

Among the broodmares, five daughters of Agdam were retained. Particularly notable is the bay mare Deliana from the Delta family. She produced high-class offspring, including two breeding stallions — Indicator and Ildon, ensuring further development of the line.

Agdam’s legacy continued through later generations as well.
His son Adler stands at the Veles Stud Farm, and his grandson Arion is used in the Olympia breeding program. They preserved the key characteristics of the line: refinement, soft movement, sensitivity to contact, and an athletic temperament.

Agdam became one of the key stallions who carried forward the genetics of Absinthe.
Through him, this exceptional lineage was strengthened and further developed within sport horse breeding. His influence is still felt today, thanks to descendants who continue to distinguish themselves in both breeding programs and sport arenas.
