Blitz Interview: Ksenia Batalova

The heroes of our feature today are Ksenia Batalova and her trusted partner Lady Di. Ksenia has nearly 10 years of experience in high-level sport, and together they’ve come a long way — from their first courses to international victories.
How did Lady Di come into your life?
– When Lady Di arrived at my stable, she was just 3 years old. Honestly, she didn’t make any impression on me at first — I didn’t even want to ride her. And I certainly couldn’t imagine that we would go so far and achieve such serious results together.
What makes Lady Di special in competition?
– At shows, she’s a true fighter: she knows exactly what she needs to do, she’s strong and brave — and without that, you can’t jump big heights. On course, we become one, and that’s what makes us a successful pair.
And what is she like in everyday life?
– At home, Lady Di is completely different. Calm, kind, and even-tempered. She loves a good meal, long naps, and relaxing in the paddock after training. She enjoys her horse life to the fullest.
A bit about her background?
– Lady Di is a KWPN Dutch Warmblood, but the most important thing is that she’s the only Grand Prix-level horse born and raised in Kazakhstan. Most of the horses competing at international shows are imported from Europe. That makes her journey truly unique.
Which of your sporting achievements mean the most to you?
– The most important for me was the 160 cm qualifying round in Tashkent this year, where we took 2nd place. Over the last two years, we’ve had many podium finishes at World Cup stages, Grand Prix events in Moscow, and national competitions. All of those victories mean a lot to both of us.
